Things to Know About Eternity Rings
The Meaning of Eternity Rings
The term eternity ring emphasizes that just like a wedding ring it has no beginning and above all no end. It is a symbol of a couple’s eternal love for each other, or of the cycle of life celebrated at the birth or adoption of a child. Also known as alliance ring, it represents the appreciation for the time spent side by side in a marriage or also the joy for the common future ahead of a couple in love.
The History of Eternity Rings
The first eternity rings were given about 4,000 years ago by the Egyptians as tokens of eternal love and life. Eternity rings from that time were often just ordinary metals, some set with stones all the way around the band and some only set on the top half of the ring. Over time we see eternity rings appear again, for example in the 18th century when they featured rhinestones, topaz and sometimes a variety of stones in one ring. The modern diamond eternity ring was created by De Beers in the 1960s.
When Do You Give an Eternity Ring
For all special occasions that are worth celebrating, your partner will be happy to receive an eternity ring. Whether for the birth of a child, for promotion, for a round birthday or for an anniversary wedding.
Of course, no one will stop you from giving yourself an eternity ring and simply wearing it as a beautiful piece of jewellery.
Wearing an Eternity Ring as an Engagement Ring or as a Wedding Band
Eternity rings are also becoming increasingly popular as engagement or wedding rings. For a wedding ring we would recommend a ring model in which the stones are well protected by a sufficiently robust ring rail. We would be happy to advise you personally which of our ring models are suitable.
Choosing An Eternity Ring Setting
The type of settings for the stones of an eternity ring can completely alter the appearance of the ring and how the stones are displayed in the band. We have designed all our ring models to show off the diamonds, and we have kept our designs clean and elegant to make sure their appeal will be enduring. If you take a look at the different models, you will quickly get a feel for which type of setting suits you best.
How to Wear an Eternity Ring
Most commonly eternity rings are worn on the ring finger of the left hand. Then it can also be worn on the other hand if you already have wedding and engagement rings. If the rings are not too wide then you can also wear all three rings on the same finger, usually the wedding ring first, followed by the engagement ring and finally the eternity ring.
Many of our customers also love the combination of several eternity rings in different precious metals or with different stones. Either way, there is no right or wrong way to wear an eternity ring, it’s entirely up to your personal taste.
